BLOOMINGTON — Bonnie Gee was recently reminded of the impact early education can have on a child.
Gee, director of Tomorrow’s Promise Learning Centre in Bloomington, was shopping for classroom supplies when she ran into the parent of a former student of the preschool.
“He told me his little girl had gone to the school the first year it was founded. He said she’s now in college at University of California in Los Angeles and that she’s all grown up,” said Gee. “He said her education at Tomorrow’s Promise Learning Centre was the foundation for her future.”
Then the man paid for Gee’s full cart.
“You don’t realize how much you can touch lives,” said Gee.
Tomorrow’s Promise Learning Centre is celebrating 25 years as a preschool through Cross Pointe Church of God at 3101 Airport Road in Bloomington.
The school opened in 1993, starting as a summer camp with 35 children. Now the school employs nine teachers, offering year-round education options for children from 3 to 5 years old and can enroll up to 140 students.
The Christian preschool teaches a basic curriculum to prepare children for kindergarten, said Gee.
Students learn different subjects each week including topics like dental health and fire safety. Free play, reading and group projects are a large part of the curriculum.
Gee said some students who attended the school 25 years ago are now enrolling children of their own, including six of her grandchildren.
Families aren’t required to be members of Cross Pointe Church of God.
“We have people come from Hudson, Towanda and Chenoa. Some bring their kids here just for summer and others spend the whole year with us. It’s something that helps families make the decision about kindergarten if they’re on the fence,” said Gee.
The school is celebrating 25 years of education with an open house from 1 to 3 p.m. March 18 in the fellowship hall at Cross Pointe Church of God.
The open house will include snacks and presentations from previous students. Guests can chat with past and present teachers and browse former class photos.
