CRESCENT – Spirits were high during a community cookout Monday evening at Crescent Elementary School.
Members of the Crescent Community School Alliance said they were encouraged by the new superintendent’s willingness to help promote the school.
Superintendent Vickie Murillo said parents and community members seem happy to get involved with the school.
“They see this as a great opportunity to turn the page,” she said. “There’s a very good feeling about our principal. People have known her as a teacher and a leader. They see that as a real positive that we put a strong leader out here in Crescent.”
Registration for the upcoming school year is looking strong so far, with a few more expected to sign up by Aug. 24.
“The superintendent is really encouraging and positive,” said Alliance Vice President Ciara Warden. “We’re feeling really good about it.”
Caterers from the Madison Avenue Hy-Vee estimated the turnout at 160 to 180 people.
Back-to-school night for elementary schools in the Council Bluffs Community School District, including Crescent, will be Aug. 22.
