Coffee with Eugene superintendent
Parents, students, school staff and residents are invited to have a cup of coffee and a conversation with Eugene School District Superintendent Gustavo Balderas from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday. This informal time will allow people to ask questions and share ideas about the school district. A series of drop-in coffee chats will be held throughout the school year at 4J Education Center, 200 N. Monroe St. Later meetings will be at different locations around the district.
Windows on Waldorf
Prospective and current parents are invited to visit Eugene Waldorf school while school is in session for a firsthand experience of grades and early childhood classes. Ask questions of an experienced Waldorf teacher and gain exposure to Waldorf educational methods and philosophy. Adults only. ‘Boys Alive’ author to speak
“Boys Alive” author and family coach, Janet Allison, will speak about how boys uniquely think, communicate and learn. She’ll highlight some of the differences between the male and female brain — and show how they affect day-to-day life with children, partner, and colleagues. She’ll add in practical parenting strategies and plenty of anecdotes along the way. This presentation, which is helpful for parents of girls and boys, will be 6 p.m. 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Eugene Waldorf School at 1350 McLean Blvd. For more information, visit EugeneWaldorf.org. Marcola School Board vacancy
The Marcola School District Board of Directors has a vacancy due to the resignation of a member and a replacement will be appointed to serve. Applicant must be a legally registered voter and have been a resident in the district for one year immediately preceding the appointment. Employees of the district are not eligible. Marist offers free water testing
Marist Catholic High School offers free water testing for rural Lane County residents who draw their drinking water from private wells.
Sample kits can be picked up at several locations in Lane County: Lane County Public Health Department, Marist Catholic High School main office, Diess Feed and Seed, Pleasant Hill Feed Store, Junction City Community Center, Coburg Fire Station, Wagon Wheel Feed and Grain. A $1 refundable deposit will be collected.
Samples can be dropped off in the main office at Marist Catholic High School between 8:30 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. on the following dates: Wednesday, Jan. 16, March 15 and May 29.
