Nearly 300 people gathered Saturday night to partake in a locally-sourced meal while supporting agriculture education in Clark County for the Harvest to Hand dinner, hosted by Reece Farm and Gilkison Farm.
In its second year, the farm-to-table-style dinner boasted a guest list of 290 and featured a gourmet-style menu from local chef Steve Atkins, of Engine House Deli + Pub.
The menu included meats and produce from local and regional farms, including Gilkison Farm, Reece Farm, My Father’s Garden, Cecil Farms, Courtney Farms and Teal Tractor. The four-course meal was fittingly rounded out with a dessert featuring mixed berry ice cream using strawberries from Brandon and Amy Reece and black raspberries from Brennan and Serena Gilkison.
Down to the decor, which included flowers from Kathy Gilkison and Leigh Davis, the event was all about promoting local farms.
The two young farm families have a mission of promoting agriculture particularly through education programs for Clark County students.
Last year’s dinner raised approximately $4,000 for programs, including an agriculture field for all third-grade students at Gilkison Farm and various in-school events at local elementary schools.
“It would be impossible for us to name everyone who has contributed to make this event possible,” Amy Reece said Saturday night.
“We just want to thank all our family and friends and the community for the support of the event and agriculture,” Serena Gilkson added.
