The Fiske Guide to Colleges 2018 named the University of Nebraska-Lincoln one of 20 “best buys” among the nation’s public universities.

The designation is given on the basis of affordability, academic quality and student life.

Other public universities in the region that were named are the University of Iowa, the University of Missouri, the University of Wisconsin and Truman State University in Missouri.

“We are pleased to be recognized for two central aspects of higher education — academics and affordability — and we are dedicated to making sure a degree from Nebraska remains a good value,” said Amber Williams, assistant vice chancellor for academic services and enrollment at UNL.

Three from school in India visit Nebraska Methodist College

Nebraska Methodist College of Omaha has been hosting three administrators from the Hillary Clinton Nursing School in Saharanpur, India.

Local entrepreneur Vinod Gupta established the school five years ago to address health care needs of rural populations and to honor his mother, the college said.

Since July 14, the three administrators have been attending classes, working with faculty, touring clinical sites and spending time with students while staying in on-campus housing. Their two-week visit will end Thursday.

“We also will be exploring the possibility of establishing a partnership with the nursing school as we move forward with our international learning initiatives for faculty and students,” said Jody Woodworth, vice president for academic affairs.

21-member panel searches for UNL vice chancellor

A 21-member committee has been set up to help find UNL’s next vice chancellor for business and finance.

Christine Jackson, who has had that job since 2000, will retire at the end of the year.

The committee is led by UNL Executive Vice Chancellor Donde Plowman and Mike Boehm, vice chancellor for the Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources at UNL.

The committee is working with Witt/Kieffer to conduct the national search.

The vice chancellor for business and finance is responsible for budget, financial and accounting services at UNL and physical facilities and grounds, including capital construction and maintenance.
